Welcome to Atlantic Sun Airways' Boeing Field operations page. The Atlantic Sun Airways pilot training center is located at the south end of Boeing Field in Seattle, Washington, USA. Boeing Field was opened in 1928 to serve multiple functions: as a municipal airport, as a testing and delivery facility for the Boeing Company, and as a major air freight center for the region's industries.

King County International Airport (KBFI), commonly known as Boeing Field, is owned by King County and managed by the Aviation Division of the King County Department of Transportation. Today, KBFI continues to fill a multitude of needs and averages 375,000 operations annually. The airport is a base for about 150 businesses, including air cargo companies, flight schools, charter operations, and helicopter services.

Atlantic Sun Airways :: Pilot Training Center Info
You will start off in the Cessna 206 and practice going to smaller closer airports for 20 hours. Then you will get to stretch your legs a little more in the Rockwell Turbo Commander to airports further away and in a more demanding airplane.

After you have logged your 40 hours, you will take a checkride in the Rockwell Turbo Commander using FsP (use of FsP Demo version is possible) as a check pilot. You must get a rating of GOOD or better to pass. The Checkride will be from KSFO to KLAX. If you pass, you can sign up with any of Atlantic Sun's four Hubs that you wish and start your career as a CAT A pilot with a new set of gold Atlantic Sun Airways Pilot Wings! If you don't pass, you get to re-fly the checkride until you do pass.

When you start your training, begin with flight # 9900 and work your way down the list (9900-9901-9902-9903-....-9961). When you acquired 20 hours in the 206 before having flown all Cessna 206 flights, you are allowed to continue with the TC-690B flights.

Now a little information about your training area...

KBFI is located at the southern end of Puget Sound and is bordered on the West by the Olympic Mountains and on the East by the Cascade Mountain Range.

To the South you will enjoy seeing several volcanic peaks, Mt. Rainier, 14,410 ft, Mt Adams, at 12,276ft, and Mt. St. Helens at 8,365ft.

To the North, lay the scenic San Juan islands where some of the training flights will take you. Vancouver and Victoria, British Columbia lay a little further North and there are flights for you into this area also.

Some of your training flights will take you over the Cascade Range to Eastern Washington where the green is replaced with wheat land and large farms. You will also have some flights that take you near the Olympic Range to the West of KBFI.

Grant County Airport in Eastern Washington has an almost three mile long runway and you will have a flight there! Near KBFI is KRNT where the Boeing Company builds all the 737s and the 757, 727 and 707 when they were in production.

To the North lays KPAE, Paine Field, the home of the 747, 767, 777 and the new 787 Dreamliner. It has the largest internal volume building in the world for the factory.

The weather here in the Pacific Northwest can be beautiful and challenging. You will become proficient in IFR procedures like the ILS. Be sure to check weather prior to your flights!

There are plenty of VFR references and you will find the mountains, islands, and forests wonderful to fly over. You will also have night flights to keep it interesting.
